When I began this blog, I wrote that I would occasionally share my poetry, and I have decided to keep that promise for the first time in this post. So here is a poem.
Octoberian Palette
There is no palette like an October day.
With skies of an unmatched blue
And trees turning their summer green
To shades of yellow and orange
Or maybe even red or brown
And nearly every day is brisker
Than the one that came before it.Â
Slowly, the leaves will fall from the trees
And they will form a carpet that slowly dulls
As colorful October fades into chilly November.
I chose to share this poem for a few reasons.
1). It's about October and that's the month we're in currently. I would feel weird sharing it in the month of May, for example, but maybe that's just me.
2). It makes me feel nostalgic for the Octobers that I enjoyed on campus during my college years. The university that I obtained my undergraduate degree at is recognized as a "Tree Campus", and Octobers on such a campus are absolutely beautiful.
3). It also makes me feel nostalgic for the colorful drives through the mountains in West Virginia that were the bookends of fall break.
4). It makes me happy that I took the time at one point to write about my favorite month
5). It breaks the ice for me to share more of my poetry in future blog posts now I've done it once.
This poem also brings to my mind a quote from Anne of Green Gables : "I'm so glad I live in a world where there Octobers. It would be terrible if we just skipped from September to November, wouldn't it?" Yes, I agree with Anne that it would be terrible indeed! I wish you all a happy, colorful rest of your October!
